Frequently Asked Questions About Online Speech Therapy & Voice Training
DO YOU ACCEPT INSURANCE FOR SPEECH OR VOICE THERAPY ?
Yes! We’re currently in-network with:
Medicare, Blue Cross Blue Shield (Blue Advantage, Blue Care, Blue Options, Classic Blue, NC State Health Plan, Blue Medicare), UnitedHealthcare, Aetna, Tricare, Oscar, Friday Health Plans, AmeriHealth Caritas, and Cigna. We also accept out-of-state PPO plans for these insurances as in-network.
We’ll submit claims directly to your insurance to make things easier. We also offer a free insurance check before your first appointment so you know exactly what to expect.
If we’re out-of-network with your plan, we can either submit claims on your behalf (when allowed) or give you a Superbill to submit for reimbursement.
Private pay is always an option too—especially if your plan doesn’t cover services like gender-affirming voice therapy or if your insurance doesn’t consider the sessions “medically necessary.”

HOW DOES TELEPRACTICE WORK?
TelePractice (Telehealth) is done online with your computer or smart phone. We send you a link and you click it. We use Telehealth software which is HIPAA compliant, 100% secure, and protected with bank-level encryption. It's the future of healthcare! You will need reliable internet access, a webcam, microphone, and speakers (most computers have these last three items already built-in, but you can purchase a microphone headset at Target or Amazon starting around $9). Payments and client forms can all easily be done in advance online through our secure client portal. For clients wanting more privacy and clients who don't live near Asheville, this is a great option for you!
HOW MUCH IS YOUR PRIVATE PAY RATE?
Our private pay rate is technically a prompt pay discount—$90 for the evaluation and $70 per session. To qualify for this rate, payment must be made within 48 hours of your session.
Most clients use autopay, which makes this easy by automatically charging your card on file the night after each session.
DO I NEED A DOCTOR'S PRESCRIPTION/ORDER?
If you plan to have Medicare cover the costs, you will need an order from your doctor for speech therapy evaluation and treatment. Your provider can fax it directly to us (fax number 828-575-5874), or you can upload it yourself through the client portal. If you plan to private pay, no order is needed. Most private insurance companies (like BCBS, Aetna, CIGNA, etc) don't require a doctor's order, but some require a prior authorization before starting therapy, so it's always a good idea to check with your individual insurance provider.
HOW DO YOU ENSURE MY PRIVACY?
All my communications with clients are done through a HIPAA compliant secure portal or my HIPAA compliant email. Through the client portal, you can fill out intake forms, book appointments, enter payment information, and send/receive messages from me. If you choose TelePractice, this service option is done through Zoom pro and is also secure and HIPAA compliant. Your privacy and security are of upmost importance to us!
DO YOU DO ANY SPEAKING ENGAGEMENTS WITH GROUPS?
We are more than happy to come speak to a local group about advocacy and services! We have experience speaking with support groups for transgender voice and communication, aphasia, and Parkinson's disease, as well as training classes for healthy professional voice use.
