Bonnie Walter (she/her)
Speech-Language Pathologist
Bonnie Walter is a licensed and ASHA-certified speech-language pathologist specializing in adult aphasia and acquired communication and swallowing disorders. She is especially passionate about culturally responsive care and supporting adults with neurologically based communication and dysphagia needs across medical and community settings.
Bonnie earned her Master of Science in Speech and Language Therapy with Distinction from the University of Essex in England in 2023. She is also a certified member of the Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists and a registered member of the Health and Care Professions Council in the United Kingdom. She holds a Bachelor of Arts in Latino/a/x American Studies from Miami University in Oxford, Ohio, and completed additional coursework at ITESO University in Guadalajara, Mexico.
Following graduation, Bonnie worked in an acute inpatient hospital setting treating adults with acquired communication and swallowing disorders, including individuals with stroke, traumatic brain injury, progressive neurological disease, and cancer. This experience strengthened her skills in interdisciplinary collaboration, evidence-based dysphagia management, and compassionate care.
Bonnie currently resides in Florida and works part-time with Voices of Hope for Aphasia, a nonprofit organization focused on life-participation approaches for people with aphasia. Her work includes facilitating group sessions, providing family education, and supporting community communication training initiatives.
Bonnie joined Blue Ridge Speech and Voice in 2026 and provides telehealth services to adults across multiple states. Her approach emphasizes functional communication, safe swallowing, and helping each person participate more fully in daily life.
